National Geographic Adventure:

Croatia being called the destination No 1 in 2006

The National Geographic Adventure is a reputable monthly of the American National Geographic society and focuses on fanciers of active holiday and exciting travelling to the parts of the world that promise adventurous discovery of pristine nature. In November, it issued an extensive article on Croatia by John Bowermaster. After finishing his 640-km long exploration, travelling on a sea-kayak from Zadar to Dubrovnik, he recommended the Kornati archipelago as a unique place, which is a necessary point of visit for a visitor. „The beauty of the isles is untouched, cultivated, yet untamed“, Bowermaster emphasized in his 10-page article, which is enhanced with many splendid photographs of Kornati Isles, Mljet, Korcula and other attractive places on the Croatian Coasts and Isles.

The National Geographic Adventure describes the rapid tourism development that took place after the war in Croatia had finished. The historical towns of Hvar, Korcula, and Dubrovnik are full of young and wealthy people. Croatia is becoming a new Riviera. Last year, the famous American actor, Tom Cruise, visited Dubrovnik on his yacht. The Croatians have already got used to seeing renowned person such as Prince William or John Malkovich, the American actor of Croatian origin. However, the monthly alleges that Croatia offers well more than just sun and sea: „After Croatia has returned to the tourist map, a whole range of tourist opportunities have arisen, beginning with cultural and astronomical tours, over climbing the sea cliffs, to explorations of nudist beaches .“
